Standard tuning — the New York thrash bands stayed at concert pitch while the Bay Area tuned down, and Anthrax never moved. Opens State of Euphoria with an acoustic-and-clean introduction before the main riff, so the rig needs a usable clean at reduced guitar volume. Scott Ian's rhythm sound is the most percussive in thrash: heavy right-hand muting, a tight gate on the notes, and noticeably less gain than his contemporaries, which is what lets the fast triplet figures read as separate hits rather than a blur. Keep treble and presence high, mids around flat, and the gain around 6 or 7 at most. Recorded 1988 with Mark Dodson. Dan Spitz handles the leads, which are faster and more chromatic than the riffing underneath them.

Common Questions About the "Be All, End All" Tone

  1. What guitar did Anthrax use on "Be All, End All"?

Anthrax recorded "Be All, End All" (released 1988) before the Jackson Pro Series Rhoads RRT-3 came out; it is named above as a modern equivalent. Pickup selector: bridge pickup on the guitar. Tuned to standard (E A D G B E).

  2. What amp settings does "Be All, End All" need?

On Marshall JCM800 2203: Gain 6.5, Bass 5, Mid 6.5, Treble 7.5, Presence 7, Volume 7. Each value is on the standard 0–10 amp scale; match them on your amp first, then nudge to taste. ToneMirror can translate these positions for whatever amp you actually own.

  3. Can I play "Be All, End All" without a Marshall JCM800 2203?

Yes. ToneMirror takes the original recipe above and adapts it to your guitar, amp, and pedals - so you can chase the "Be All, End All" tone on a Katana, a Helix, a tube combo, or anything else. The translation accounts for EQ curve, gain structure, and pickup type so the result actually sounds like the record, not just the same knob numbers on different gear.
